  2. The IBM PC implemention of CC-DOS/MS-DOS Kermit Version 2.32(named CC-Kermit) 
  3. is a Chinese/English version of the old MS-DOS Version 2.32. It can runs on 
  4. most of the IBM PC family, including the PC,XT,AT, Portable PC, PCjr, PC 
  5. Convertible, and the PS/2 series, true IBM-compatibles like the Compaq, 
  6. AT&T 6300, and DEC VAXmate,and near-compatibles like the Olivetti M24, 
  7. Seequa Chameleon, and DG/1. In MS-DOS environment, CC-Kermit 2.32 is same as 
  8. MS-Kermit 2.32 completely, while in CC-DOS (Chinese Code DOS) environment,
  9. all message is automatically changed into Chinese and some functions of 
  10. MS-Kermit 2.32 is disabled. I don't rewrite User Guide of CC-Kermit. All 
  11. commands and user guides of MS-Kermit 2.32 can be used in CC-Kermit.

  30. Kermit-MS can be run interactively, from a batch file, as an "external" DOS
  31. command, or with redirected or piped standard input and output.  Upon initial
  32. startup, the program executes any commands found in the file MSKERMIT.INI in
  33. the current disk or DOS path, or the file specified by "-f filename" on the
  34. Kermit command line.
  35.  
  36. * Interactive Operation:
  37.  
  38. To run Kermit-MS interactively, invoke the program from DOS command level by
  39. typing its name, usually "kermit".  When you see the command's prompt,
  40. "Kermit-MS>", you may type Kermit commands repeatedly until you are ready to
  41. exit the program.  The commands EXIT or QUIT return you to DOS.
  42.  
  43. While typing commands, use BACKSPACE to erase the character most recently
  44. typed, Ctrl-W to delete the most recent field, or Ctrl-U to delete the entire
  45. command, and enter the command by typing RETURN (Carriage Return, Enter), or
  46. Ctrl-L.  A question marked typed at any point in a command (except in a
  47. filename or character string) will give you a brief hint about what's expected
  48. at that point.  Pushing ESC key will complete the command current field, if
  49. possible, and position the cursor at the next field.  If completion is not
  50. possible, Kermit will beep.  You can cancel any command during its execution by
  51. typing Ctrl-C.

  53. * Command Line Invocation:
  54.  
  55. Kermit-MS may be invoked with command line arguments from DOS command level,
  56. for instance:
  57.  
  58.     A>kermit set port 1, set speed 9600, connect
  59.  
  60. In this case, help and completion are not available and Kermit-MS will exit
  61. back to DOS after completing the specified commands unless you include the
  62. "stay" command.  Several commands may be given on the command line, separated
  63. by commas.

  65. * Batch Operation:
  66.  
  67. Like other MS-DOS programs, Kermit-MS may be operated under batch with command
  68. line arguments.  If you invoke it without command line arguments, it will run
  69. interactively, reading commands from the keyboard and not the batch file.  When
  70. it exits, batch processing will continue to the end of the batch file.  An
  71. ERRLEVEL number is returned by Kermit to assist batch file controls.

  73. * Remote Operation:

  75. The MS-DOS CTTY command allows an MS-DOS system to be used from a terminal
  76. connected to its communication port, e.g. "CTTY COM1".  You can then use DOS,
  77. and Kermit, from a terminal or computer connected to the PC's COM1 device.

  89. * Top-Level Kermit-MS Commands:

  91. -F <filespec>   (From DOS command line only)
  92.   Use <filespec> instead of MSKERMIT.INI as initialization file.
  93.   "kermit -f nul" runs Kermit without any initialization file at all.
  94. ASK <variable-name> <prompt string>
  95.   Prompt user, store what user types in variable.
  96. ASSIGN <variable-name-1> <variable-name-2> 
  97.   Copy the value of variable 2 to variable 1.

  99.   Shut down a remote Kermit server and log out its job.

  198. including device specifications.  Allowable wildcard characters are "*"
  199. (match from here to end of field) and "?" (single character), as in DOS,
  200. except "#" must be used instead of "?" to match the first character of a
  201. filename, to allow ? to give help in that position.

  203. * Interruption commands while a file transfer in progress:

  205. ^X Stop sending the current file and go on to the next one, if any.
  206. ^Z Stop sending this file, and don't send any further files.
  207. ^E Send Error packet to the remote Kermit.
